The Paddle Boat 15 Years Later
When I was a kid, we use to camp all the time all over the great state of Wisconsin. Each time was always an adventure in its own and a great story to come back with and brag to friends. However, the funniest moment (still to this day) is when we decided to rent a paddle boat while staying at Happy Acres Kampground near Burlington, WI. It happened to be my mother, my brother and myself first playing around on the paddle boat.
Soon after we were cruising around the pond, my dad came around and said he wanted a turn. With that said we paddled our way over to the pier. Now mind you, my dad is 6'6" and a BIG guy, so he was not about to step on some wobbling pier. So instead, his brilliant idea was to walk into the pond. My dad got about three steps in and the next thing you hear is a few curse words and a loud splash! Right before he went down we all looked over only to see him sliding into the mud and go down. We started laughing so hard and my dad jumps up and attempts to stand only to fall back down into the muddy water again and once again he tired it a third time. We laughed so hard the three of us could not control ourselves.
My dad has a great sense of humor and with that he decided, since he could not stand in the mud, he would swim to our boat and hang onto the back for a ride. This must have happened 15 years ago, but to this day we all still laugh about it.
As a family we still make trips up to Wisconsin, especially in the summer to go out on my brother and sister-in-law's boat and we still give my poor dad a hard time about getting on and off and making sure he watches where he steps.
Enclosed is a picture of our family loving the great Wisconsin outdoors in a boat that’s a little bigger than a paddle boat!
