For a winter getaway, why not Ski Wisconsin? Here we will provide information you can use to decide where to go around the state. Whether you're looking for Wisconsin ski vacations or a ski resort Wisconsin, we want to bring the information to you as a resource for your getaway plans.
Some may be surprised that Wisconsin is actually an excellent ski destination. Parts of Wisconsin are pretty flat, after all. But thanks to glaciation and its effect on the terrain, there are lots of places in Wisconsin that provide ample elevation for a great day on the slopes. I've skied at Granite Peak in Rib Mountain State Park and was quite affected by its height. (eeek!)
Besides great ski resort in Wisconsin, the other thing that makes Wisconsin an excellent ski destination is the weather. The winters are longer here than other places and temps can provide natural snowfall early in the season that lasts for several, long months. This provides lots of opportunity to hit the slopes despite work and family demands that would undoubtedly cramp the season in other places.
Also, there is lots of skiing in Wisconsin that is close to home. If one wished to ski Wisconsin Dells, Devils Head and Cascade Mountain are just a short drive from Madison, and at the Dells' doorstep, just to give an example. Plus, with all the nearby attractions available, you can even add other activities to a getaway such as evening entertainment or a trip to an indoor water park.
The roads in Wisconsin are relatively easy to drive, and on my recent visit, I was quite impressed at how smooth they were and how clear they were kept by snowplows. And it was snowing a heck of a lot, too! Believe me, I've been on some pretty treacherous mountain roads in California and you do NOT want to be slipping and sliding up a two lane road carved out of the mountainside with a 9800 ft drop on one side – and no guard rails! So while I'm sure there are those who will argue with me about the quality of Wisconsin roads, in my experience, they are excellent.
