Wisconsin Experience
ContestYour Favorite Wisconsin ExperienceFor our family, summers spent at the cabin are some of our most cherished memories. Anyone who has ever been to Wisconsin knows how wonderful it is. Between the fresh, pine-scented air, with glimpses of crystal blue lakes sparkling through lush, green trees, to the warm-hearted hospitality of some of the friendliest people on Earth, the Wisconsin experience leaves an impression that beckons one to return. In honor of family vacations in Wisconsin, we're holding a contest for the best Wisconsin experience.
Winner Announcement!! The winner of the Summer 2009 Wisconsin Experience story contest has been determined. Wanting to be fair, we researched each vote to make sure there was no "funny business." There was an issue of duplicate votes, but to be fair and thorough, we hired a computer expert to come in and evaluate the situation. After careful consideration, it was determined that while there were some duplicates (a few), all the other votes were indeed valid and unique for each contestant. Therefore, without further adieu, I am pleased to announce that the Winner of the Summer, 2009 Wisconsin Experience Story Contest is none other than
Thank you, Stephanie, for your wonderful story and working so hard to win. All the stories were wonderful in fact, and I thank all of our contestants for being here and participating. Stephanie, my sister and I will be in touch with you shortly to arrange your getaway weekend. Happy Summer 2009 Everybody!

How to EnterIt's simple, really. Just tell us a story about your favorite Wisconsin experience. Your entry can be funny or touching, entertaining, serene, extreme or silly. It may have taken place in the summer, winter, spring or fall. Only thing is: it must have taken place in Wisconsin. Just type your entry below, upload your photo (optional), include your email address and you're eligible to win. Videos are welcome, but you must host them elsewhere and paste the embed code in your entry. To win, they must still accompany a story, however. Now of course, you have to be 21 years of age or older to enter. Our visitors will be the judges along with a distinguished panel of judges, if needed in the event of a tie or discrepancy. You may enter as many often as you wish, but you may not attempt to skew the vote. In other words, no cheating! We know how to detect this and you will be disqualified. Hmmph!
How To Win Your entry could be a story about your kids having a blast at the lake with a picture of them doing something silly. It could be a story about the record-breaking Muskie you caught and a picture to prove it. If you have a photo of you or your family performing award-winning (or not so award-winning) water ski stunts, send it in! You could write us and tell us about your favorite tavern owner or send us a picture of your parents/grandparents and how Wisconsin vacations have impacted their lives. All entries that are disrespectful or harmful to others will be rejected, as it should be. Your entry can be in the form of a story or photo or both, but it must contain enough detail to accurately depict why your Wisconsin experience is a winner. We suggest no fewer than 1000 characters, but no more than 10,000 (the entry form limit.) Photos are not mandatory, but must be owned by you and must accompany a story so we understand the experience. You may submit video that is hosted elsewhere (provide the embed code), but like photos, a written story must come along with it. Again, the experience must have taken place in Wisconsin.
What's the Prize? The prize? A free two-night stay at my sister's cabin for up to 6 human guests. (Sorry but Fido, the dog and Spanky, the Goldfish will have to stay home.) Your stay must be booked during an open weekend. In other words, there may not be availability during the months of July and August or on holidays, but Sis will work hard to get you in during the time that's most appealing to you. Now, if you've never been to the Goeke cabins, you're in for a real treat. They're located in the Great Northwoods, where the sounds of loons fill the air and deer roam freely through the yard. Sis hates it when I tell people this, but I saw black bear just down the road from the cabin one day, so that will give you an indication of the wildlife in the area. It's in Indian country where Ojibwe flourished, where the night skies are crystal clear and the moon is so close you can almost touch it. Lakes are everywhere and the Walleye fingers amazing. (Walleye fingers are like fish sticks made with fresh Walleye . . . yum!!) It's a place where you will create your own favorite Wisconsin experience; one we hope you will cherish for a lifetime. To enter, start typing below and be sure to include your email address where indicated so we can contact you in the event you win. Without it, you will not be able to claim your prize.
Now for the Other Prize . . . There's another prize? Yes. All entrants will receive a 10% discount for any stay booked at the Goeke Cabins between now and 12/31/2009. Now that's cool. (Entrants must be eligible to win and their entry must be qualified. No spam, no minors, no nastiness, etc.)
How to Vote Read each entry thoroughly. Then make a comment on how you liked the story. Upon commenting, give it a rating between 1 and 5. 5 is the highest. The story with the most and highest votes will win. All votes must be valid. That's where our distinguished panel comes in and cheating will be detected. Enter and vote on as many stories as you like, but you must comment for your vote to be lodged. Keep comments clean and respectful, please. Please don't spam the vote – you'll just get banned. Check back often and see how your story is doing in the polls! If you opt in upon entry, you will be notified every time someone votes on your story.
Deadline Deadline for entries is July 4th, 2009. Final judging will be decided on July 5th, 2009.
Anything Else? Just have fun, darn it! Oh . . . and GOOD LUCK!
Here are the Entries. Come on guys - Give 'em a vote!
