As a kid, our Wisconsin vacations were a perfect fit for our family because everyone in the family loved to swim. Well Wisconsin has water and plenty of it. In fact, it has 11,188 square miles of the blue stuff and what goes best with water? Trees. Wisconsin has millions of acres of forest including the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest, the Kettle Moraine State Forest and numerous other forests and 46% of Wisconsin's land area is covered by forests.

We all know what that much forest means, right? Yes we do. It means wildlife and lots of it. Besides plentiful white-tail deer, there are beavers and badgers, red fox and grey fox, coyotes and wolves, black bears, fischers, mink, linx and the great American Bald Eagle, to name just a few.

If you love to fish, Wisconsin's got Walleye, Musky, Trout, Catfish, Sturgeon, Blue Gill, Crappies, Northern, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass and more.

You can ski on water, or downhill and cross-country on snow. You can tube behind a boat or down a hill in the winter. You can snowmobile, snowshoe, and ice fish. You can tool around a lake on a lazy pontoon or watch high powered, multi-tiered water ski shows during the summer.

There's berry picking, wildflower hunting, bird watching, wine tasting, beer drinking, cheese making - and don't you forget the wonderful fresh Wisconsin sausage available at nearly every grocery or convenience store. And I'm not talking about Slim Jims or the junky kind, either. There are water parks, shopping, amusement parks, dinner theaters and so much more.

If you've ever had a Wisconsin vacation, you know what I'm talking about. The sounds of loons on the lake, the sweet smell of pine in the air, the warm summer days and cool summer nights with the brightest stars in the clearest sky imaginable. And the moon that looks down on you at night hasn't changed a bit since the early days when the Native Americans gazed upward while paused in the telling of their stories by campfire light.
